Philippines are the only country in Asia that uses republic constitution. Among other country, the Philippines are the only country that has two or more candidates for one single position in the government.
There are almost 60- 70 Filipinos around the world have the privilege when they reach the age of 18, and that is to vote or to elect a new leaders of the country. There are two kinds of elections here in the Philippines the local and national elections. In local elections we are electing our Baranggay chairman and kagawads, while in the national elections we are electing our new president and vice president. The election process and procedures before is different on what we will be using now. Before the election was quite so hard for the people who counts the result of the election is one by one and sometimes the result of the election is undefined and fraud and sometimes it takes how may days to reveal to the people the total votes and the winner. The voting process is also need or gain more time because they are writing the names of the candidate they want to vote. But now the voting and the election process takes high steps and now it becomes well- advanced than ever. It was called the Poll Automated Election. This program is accepted and approved by the congress and the former president. The election process that we will be using this coming election is also mandatory or manually but not so difficult than before. The PCOS (Precinct Count Optical Scan) machine is used to count the votes and transmit the perfect and the correct result of the election faster and we will not using vehicles to transfer it, we will use the signals and transmitter to transmit and transfer the result easy and fast and sum up the final and total votes as easy as 1 2 3. The machine was invented by the smart matic company who won the bidding process last time. They are also the one who will print the ballot papers that we will use to vote.
At first it was difficult for the people to understand why, how this machine will work until they are engaging to some seminars and trials on how to answer the ballot and how to use the PCOS machine. There are so many advantages on using this machine, one of them it’s easier than the last time election process, easier to transmit the result and easy for the senior citizen because they only shading the circles or the oblongs before the name of the person that they want to elect or to vote. The election time before was too long but now maybe it can only take one day or less for the thousand voters, its amazing….This machine is a life changing mechanism to some people who will guarded the voters because its easy for them to use and operate this machine. If they have advantages, the machine and the election process have its disadvantages. First of them was the price of every machine and every single ballot papers to be print and to be delivered here. The transmission of the result and the total vote will not be transmitted because of some signal jammers or signal jamming devices that invented for some personal use, but now it’s easy for some people to buy and to use this jamming device to ruin this election. Another one is the malfunctioning of the machine not now but maybe on the actual election process. The machine was sensitive in reading or scanning the ballot papers because even a single cramps or mistakes on the paper, the machine will automatically eject it and it will not be counted to the actual counts.
As a student and a first time voter, this is a big hindrance if I will not too conscious on how to use this machine. This is the first time in my life that I will using a counting electronic machine to count my votes and add it up to the over all count.
This is the time were all the student like me was given an opportunity to vote and to use this new technology…
